Hwarang

A moving depiction of the bonds of friendship, love and loyalty through the lens of a group of young warriors known as the Hwarangs in the Kingdom of Silla.

The Kingdom of Silla is presided over by Queen Mother Ji-so (Kim Ji-soo) as acting regent following the death of King Beopheung.  Although she is in a caretaking role, she still harbours designs for the throne. Her son, Sammaekjong (Park Hyung-sik) has been forced into hiding following a number of assassination attempts.  With the nobles becoming increasingly powerful and wishing to usurp the Queen Mother, it becomes timely to protect and unify Silla before Sammaekjong returns and claims the throne.

The Queen Mother decides to create a group of young warriors, chosen from different levels of society in the bone-rank system to ensure the safe passage of her son to the throne and unify the three kingdoms.  Under the wise and often controversial guardianship of Lord Kim Wi-hwa (Sung Dong-il) they soon become admired, respected and loved as fearless protectors.
