Following an accident as a child, Kang Joon-sang (Bae Yong-joon) loses his memories and is taken to America where he undergoes therapy to help him completely forget his painful past. While abroad, he assumes a new identity, Min-hyung, and becomes a successful architect. Years later, when he returns to Korea, he meets interior designer Jeong Yoo-jin (Choi Ji-woo), his childhood friend, who for all this time has believed him to be dead.
Winter Sonata forms part of the Endless Love series, four dramas named after every season of the year (Autumn In My Heart, Summer Scent and Spring Waltz).
