Doctor John

After a tragic accident, Kang Shi-young (Lee Se-young), loses her confidence and is about to give up her medical career, but before she does, she agrees to help her Uncle one final time as the medical officer on duty at Chungil prison where he is the warden.  There she meets inmate #6238, genius doctor Cha Yo-han (Ji Sung).  When a prisoner with unusual symptoms comes along, they work together to find the cause of the mysterious illness.  In the process, Shi-young finds out about Dr Cha’s past and what led him to the prison.  Doctor John is based on the Japanese novel On Hand of God by Yo Kusakabe.

Later when Dr Cha is released from prison he starts to work as the head of Anesthesiology at the Sehan hospital where he mentors Shi-young and a team of others in pain management.  Due to his unorthodox and unconventional ways of diagnosing patients and his past experience, he is monitored closely under the watchful gaze of prosecutor Son Seok-ki (Lee Kyu-hyung) who believes he will commit the same crime again, this time with Shi-young’s father who is currently on life support.
